Engaging Men in TB Control Interventions

Project Info

The delay among men in seeking healthcare for HIV and TB is well-documented. Men have been overlooked in TB research and, on the African continent, in health research more broadly, partly due to a view gender in TB and health research and interventions largely concerns women. We aimed to explore reasons for high levels of undiagnosed TB among men. We employed an exploratory research approach to highlight intersecting and multi-level influences at social/community and health system levels. Our team members included Jeremiah Chikovore, Human Sciences Research Council; Graham Hart, University College London; Geoff Chipungu, College of Medicine, Blantyre, Malawi; Nicola Desmond, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and Elizabeth Corbett, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
