KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation is looking for a fulltime Social Scientist

Purpose of the position and organizational position
As a social scientist, you will lead KNCV’s research on stigma. You will also lead, supervise and/or collaborate on feasibility and acceptability studies. In addition, you will contribute to further developing and ensuring the quality of the KNCV portfolio on qualitative research along the 9 innovation pathways, including supporting and mentoring junior KNCV staff in this field. The Social Scientist reports to a Team Lead of the Division TB Elimination & Health System Innovation (TBE&HSI).

Job Profile

• Design and conduct mixed-methods studies;
• Lead, conduct or contribute to systematic literature reviews;
• Contribute to the development of effective, feasible and acceptable stigma reduction tools and validated scales to measure mental health and/or health-related stigma in the framework of TB and related health problems;
• Contribute to the further development of KNCV portfolio in qualitative research along the KNCV innovation pathways;
• Disseminate study findings through scientific publications and presentations at international conferences;
• Develop grant proposals and report to donors;
• Represent KNCV in research consortia and other international fora;
• Mentor, train, and supervise KNCV HQ and in-country staff on qualitative and mixed-methods research.

Who are we looking for?

Education

• PhD in Social Science, Public health, Global Health, Health sciences, epidemiology, medicine, or another relevant discipline.

Experience

• At least 10 years’ experience working as a social scientist as evidenced by peer-reviewed articles;
• Experience in mental health and/or stigma research;
• Experience in organizing and conducting qualitative studies;
• Experience in the implementation and evaluation (including impact) of mental health and/or stigma interventions;
• Skills in using software for qualitative data collection, data cleaning, data validation, data analysis, data visualization and interpretation;
• Familiarity with infectious diseases, ideally tuberculosis;
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently;
• Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload;
• Excellent oral and writing skills in English; working-level Dutch and other relevant language skills are an advantage (e.g., French, Russian).
