World Health Organization (WHO) Virtual Talk

Time: 24 March 2022 12:30 – 15:00 CET

Description: The World Health Organization (WHO) is organizing a special virtual talk show to commemorate World TB Day on 24 March. This will put the spotlight on TB under the theme – ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives’ to convey the urgent need to invest resources to ramp up the fight against TB and achieve the commitments to end TB made by global leaders. This is especially critical in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic that has put End TB progress at risk, and to ensure equitable access to prevention and care in line with WHO’s drive towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

The event will take place in a talk-show format with speakers connected by video on WHO’s interactive web-platform- End TB Forum. The main speakers will include Ministers, leaders and other high-level government representatives, Heads of Agencies, TB survivors, civil society and partners. The Show will be broadcast live, with interactive Q&A from the audience online.

World TB Day Event with Minister Sajjan

Time: March 24, 2022; 9:30-10am EST in Ottawa, ON Canada (the ‘Ottawa’ sign in the ByWard Market, corner of York Street and Sussex Drive)

Results Canada volunteers and sector partners (including Stop TB Partnership, Stop TB Canada, CanWaCH and Partners in Health Canada) will gather at the ‘Ottawa’ sign in the ByWard Market in Ottawa on March 24 to hear remarks delivered by the Minister to (a) commemorate World TB and (b) to recommit to Canada’s leadership to end TB through an investment in TB REACH. The Minister will be joined by the Executive Director of the Global Stop TB Partnership (Lucica Ditiu) and TB Reach recipient from Nepal, Dr. Suvesh Shrestha. Both can speak to the impact of TB REACH and also thank the Minister for Canada’s leadership to end TB. The ‘Ottawa’ sign will be one of approximately 40 monuments and landmarks across Canada that will be lit up in red this World TB Day, thanks to Results Canada’s national grassroots network. Other monuments include Vancouver-area landmarks, including the Bloedel Conservatory, City Hall and the Burrard Street Bridge. On March 24, these monuments will raise awareness for TB, while symbolizing that we are truly “in the red” in terms of progress in the fight against TB.
