The mission is to help end TB, within Canada and globally, by:
- Doing innovative, interdisciplinary research that could result in transformative new tools required to end TB globally
- Providing training & technical assistance that can support TB elimination within Canada and globally
What we do – specific research themes:
Fundamental mechanisms:
- Host-pathogen interactions, innate immunity, vaccination models, latency
Diagnostic research:
- Diagnosis of latent TB with new blood or skin tests
- Diagnosis of active TB with urine or blood tests
- Computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) of Xrays – using AI
Treatment research:
- Drug-resistant TB – new drugs and new regimens – informing WHO and CDC guidelines for over a decade
- Latent TB – randomized trials in new regimens, and management/scale-up
Operational/implementation research:
- Case finding, community engagement
