The mission is to help end TB, within Canada and globally, by:

  1. Doing innovative, interdisciplinary research that could result in transformative new tools required to end TB globally
  2. Providing training & technical assistance that can support TB elimination within Canada and globally

What we do – specific research themes:

Fundamental mechanisms:

  • Host-pathogen interactions, innate immunity, vaccination models, latency

Diagnostic research:

  • Diagnosis of latent TB with new blood or skin tests
  • Diagnosis of active TB with urine or blood tests
  • Computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) of Xrays – using AI

Treatment research:

  • Drug-resistant TB – new drugs and new regimens – informing WHO and CDC guidelines for over a decade
  • Latent TB – randomized trials in new regimens, and management/scale-up

Operational/implementation research:

  • Case finding, community engagement
